The Temelpa Trailhead is in the Sequoia National Forest, about halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Allow 6 miles from Whitney Portal to reach the trailhead.
From Temelpa Trailhead, there are a few different trails you can take. The most popular–and hardest–the trail is the Mt. Whitney trail. With a 10,000+ foot elevation to the summit of Mt. Whitney, it’s not recommended for those who struggle with heights or fitness levels. avid hikers could complete the hike in two days while others may want (or need) up to four days, including frequent breaks. Don’t forget water and snacks!
Corte Madera Town Park is a picturesque open space located in the central area of Corte Madera. The park boasts a large, grassy expanse perfect for picnics and games, in addition to a playground, basketball court, and bocce ball court. There is also an established walking route that circles a small pond within the park’s boundaries. This pond provides refuge for local ducks, geese, and turtles; as well as is a popular spot for bird-watching amongst amateur enthusiasts. The park grounds are accessible 24/7 with ample lighting available at nightfall. Public restrooms can be found on site near the parking lot entrance.
