The Golden Gate National Recreation Area is a national park administered by the National Park Service in and around San Francisco, California. The Marin Headlands are the largest component of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, accounting for almost all of Marin County’s landmass north and west of the Golden Gate Bridge and south of Muir Beach along the Pacific coast.
The recreation area also contains Redwood National and State Parks, as well as Point Reyes National Seashore, located in far northwestern Marin County. The Bay Model is a 1/12th replica of the San Francisco Bay and its watershed built in the 1950s by the Army Corps of Engineers to study tides and currents. The model is now used for educational purposes and is open to visitors.

The sanctuary also supports many other animals such as the endangered Ridgway’s rail and salt marsh harvest mouse.
RBACS not only provides tips for preserving the environment but also offers a variety of educational programs including bird walks and environmental education workshops. All ages are welcome to participate in these activities. RBACS also has a Visitor Center located on site that explores the local ecosystem through exhibits and discussion.
